I have yet to find anyone who could find a solution to my problem in SE. Literally the only crashes I've had since I found my fix was on test files, one of which was when I forgot to enable my stability mods, and the latest ones were from me exiting the game while collision was turned off (apparently that consistently causes a crash, not its not like a crash triggered by you exiting the game really means anything, obviously). So yeah, a heavily modded LE is stable on my computer, but an umodded SE is not. Besides, it would seem that is a common issue since someone uploaded their own fix for my specific problem not long ago, and it quickly turned out to be rather popular.

I did have issues crashing around the Honningbrew Meadery for a while, but I did manage to find a beautiful fix to that not too long ago. So, SE with no mods, and I can't do the main quest at all since I can never enter dragonsreach. And yes, I made sure to delete both folders to ensure the install was clean.

No mod was responsible, and even a complete fresh re-install wouldn't fix the issue. In particular, I had an issue where I would crash all the time in Dragonsreach. Yeah, SE may or may not have more mods, but unlike LE you can only use a tiny selection of them anyway.Īs for stability, I had an eaiser time doing that than I did with SE.

With LE in contrast, I can run mods made in 2012 with no issue. Normally, you outright can't use any mod made more than a few months away from the version you're running.

And the sole reason you can use mods from that large of a time frame, is because a patch hasn't been released for over a year now due to the pandemic.

The only reason not to use SSE is if your PC is not capable of handling the higher requirements of SSE.Įither way, any mod made prior to 2020 would probably not work if you used the latest version. While there may be some few mods that have not been ported due to the authors having retired from modding, not giving permissions, or just not enough demand, the vast number of popular mods HAVE been ported (and have been for some time), and far more mods are coming out for SSE (by an almost 2.5 to 1 margin), than are being released for Oldrim.

More than twice the number of mods have been uploaded for SSE in the last 2 years than for original Skyrim - and this trend just keeps increasing (just as activity in the original Skyrim forum has dropped off dramatically in just the last year - many times more so than in the SSE forum, which has also seen a decrease). With SSE having over 2500 more English language mods in a lesser amount of time.Īnd if you compare the numbers for just the last 2 years (Augto August 5, 2021) the numbers are: Original Skyrim - 23225 (Januto August 5, 2021) However, considering that the oldest mods from original Skyrim are obsolete or abandoned, (at least those made prior to 2015), the numbers change drastically: Special Editions - 25862 (Octoto August 5, 2021) Original Skyrim - 30812 (Novemto August 5, 2021) This is just to get the facts straight.Īs of August 5, 2021, the total number of mods in English for both original Skyrim and Special Edition are as follows: Again - To respond to the "far more mods for LE than SE" myth, which is often seen posted by very many people, and is again posted above (using grand totals that include translations and foreign languages, thus many mods being counted multiple times) the actual number of mods are as follows.
